Since GMC is known more for its GMC Truck-focused line of vehicles, itas likely not the first brand that comes to mind when it comes to electric vehicles (EVs). To guide you through GMCas current EV offerings, their future plans, and how their trucks stack up against competitors, Jerry, licensed auto insurance broker and first Super App for Car Owners, has put together this handy guide.
Before any more new EVs come down GMas assembly lines, thereas a big problem with their current offerings, the EVs and crossovers, that needs fixing. In a virtual speech to the 2022 Consumer Electronics Show (CES), General Motors Chairman and CEO Mary Barra laid out the companys plans for taking on the electric car (EV) market even more, with a barrage of new models coming over the next few decades. Buick is set to unveil two new electric vehicles, according to GMs 2019 sustainability report. The electric vehicles will be available in the Buick, Chevrolet, Cadillac, and GMC lineups.
As of 2022, aGMC has an all-electric vehicle,a and has firm plans for releasing more in the future. GMC has just one all-electric car in the 2022athe Hummer EV, a spectacular 2022athe pickup truck.
The range for the newest GMC EV SUV is expected to top out at over 300 miles, and the supertruck, HUMMER EV, will deliver more than 350 miles of all-electric range. The GMC Hummer EV, has three electric motors capable of producing up to 1,000 hp. The pickup is estimated to be capable of 350 miles of range, with the three electric motors producing 1,000 horsepower.
This trucks trio of electric motors get you from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.0 seconds, offering 1,000 horsepower in the lineupas highest trim. Like the Hummer, however, its electric trucks can come with battery packs holding a mind-boggling 200.0kWh of power. The Hummer EV SUT is likely to be the recipient of a battery pack that holds 200.0 kWh of electricity.
The reinvented GMC Hummer EV is also getting some attention for another reason: It has a battery pack more than three times larger than that found in other EVs. Based on the other vehicles we have seen, the high battery capacity in the GMC Hummer EV is not an isolated case.
Of the 65,000-plus Hummer EVs that GM has said it will make to date, the majority will not feature the 24-battery, three-motor, and lower-side-skating-plate version 1s colossal mass. Only 26 fully electric vehicles are on track, including 25 Chevy Bolt EV/Bolt EUVs and 1 GMC Hummer EV Pickup (the first delivered in December). In addition to plans for lower-trim Hummer EV Pickups and Hummer EV SUVs, GMC plans to introduce the Sierra EV in 2023, at a projected starting price of around $55,000.
An electric version of the Chevy Equinox, the Chevy Equinox EV, is also set to be available at the end of 2023. Its electric trucks are expected to be more utilitarian vehicles compared with the Hummer, aimed at lifestyle buyers. It is expected to be available from 2025, meaning that it will hit the world market well after the Hummer SUT, which is expected in 2021. It will be four-wheel-drive; the front wheels are likely powered by electric motors; the rear wheels are purportedly powered by gas engines; it may be a new ZR1 option, or carry a unique model designation; and it appears to be taking its styling cues from the 2023 Corvette Z06.
The GMC Hummer EV has four-wheel drive, which allows it to corner as a compact car, and drive in diagonals. This version, marking the highest weight and speed for an electric truck, has raised questions about an automakers responsibilities toward those sharing roadways with its creation. GMCs 2020 Hummer super bowl commercial showed the world a former symbol of oil overuse will soon become an electric-powered truck that will compete against scores from other EV trucks coming to market.
With both pride and pessimism, GM said it had done the best it could under Californias law that required 2% of new cars be “zero-emissions” vehicles starting in 1997, but the vehicles were not quite there yet. If you think about the GM EV1 as the technologys showcase – the mass-produced EV that can effectively substitute for the gas-powered vehicle, the programs results are less certain. While it is electrically powered internally, the Cadillac Lyriq itself maintains traditional gas-powered SUV styling, which should maintain some appeal to mainstream Cadillac buyers looking for a pure-form, no-futuristic-styled vehicle.
As the technology matures, we could see some higher-power specs for stock-spec electric trucks and cars hitting the market. Today, although mechanical propulsion will remain with us for many decades, General Motors is seeing the market for a variety of forms of electric vehicles, including fuel cells, as well as those that utilize gasoline and diesel engines for extended range. Within GMs car electrification strategy, and following the U.S. market introduction of the Chevrolet Volt plug-in hybrid vehicle in late 2010, the Chevrolet Spark EV was released in June 2013, becoming GMs first fully electric passenger vehicle marketed in the United States since the discontinuation of the EV1 in 1999. The 2022 Chicago Auto Show was our first opportunity to take a closer look at a new, Ultium-based electric pickup truck, the GMC Hummer EV, and an all-new Chevy Silverado EV, which debuted at CES earlier this year — but this years show may have been more about what was not there than what was — but this years show may have been more about what was.
