Ram Trucks has officially confirmed that they are going to debut this electric truck somewhere in 2024. The company has said that the electric trucks are expected to be available in late 2020. Ram Trucks has provided no details as of now, except it will be using a new platform, it will feature up to 150kW of quick charge. While that EV truck will not hit the market for some time, the Ram 1500 EV in 2024 will be the brands first fully-electric version of its conventional mid-size pickup. Aside from these estimates, all we know is the next Ram 1500 BEV will be built on Stellantisas STLA Frame platform, using the Dual Cab setup. While we have no details about battery sizes or charging times for the Ram BEVs mid-size body, the brand has said that the truck will feature up to 500 miles driving range.
Ram is looking to get in on the EV truck action, with plans to introduce a concept version of the Ram EV pickup truck this fall, with a 2024 production date on the books. Ram has also said the next-generation Ram EV pickup will featureonboard charging capability andparadigm-breakingtechnology. Ralph Gilles, chief design officer for the brand, mentioned that there are eight new Ram models planned, with one being the medium-sized pickup.
With this, Ram released a new teaser render for the all-electric Ram 1500, featuring profile shots suggesting that the EV Ram would feature a round shape, as well as body sculpting on its sides connecting it to the edge of the bed. Previous sketches hinted at a broader profile and a futuristic appearance, but it strongly suggests this electric truck is aiming for the Chevy Silverado EV end of the electric pickup styling spectrum, not the dull Ford F-150 Lightning end (the truck looks just like a gas-powered vehicle).
While an electric Ram 1500 would come out several years after the next-generation Ford F-150 Lightning, and perhaps 2023s Chevy Silverado EV, it can potentially take advantage of missteps the competition is making. Since its first EV truck is just a little bit further along than Ford, General Motors, and Rivian, it can use other brands trucks as templates of what to do, and not to do. The Ram 1500 EV is going to be the final Big Three (if you can still call it that now that RAM is under Stellantis) electric truck to make a debut, so thatll have the edge over the competition, giving Ram the time to tweak its product according to others experiences. Depending on the timing, its first electric truck may yet be ahead of Chevys Silverado EV in terms of time in market before the planned launch in the summer of 2024.
The Ram 1500s upcoming EV would be a leader of its category, whose ranks will include vehicles such as the Ford F-150 Lightning, the GMC Hummer, the Rivian R1T, Chevys EV Silverado, and likely others, according to Ram CEO Mike Koval. Ram is going to come rather late to the EV pickup party, with its 1500 EV, set to hit the market in 2024. The Ram EV pickup concept is debuting this fall, likely at the Los Angeles Auto Show. The November show for the battery-electric pickup truck will take the look at an EV Ram pickup, but like the EV Challenger concept, will not be representative of a production truck.
STLA will back a light-duty EV version of the Ram 1500 and an EV truck that is as big as a Ram truck, including a fleet-version using fuel cells for generating electricity. Meanwhile, Stellantis is providing a few teasers, suggesting that while the all-electric Ram 1500 would not be the crazy outlier that Teslas Cybertruck is, it would be a bit of a design departure from the standard Ram 1500. The Ram 1500 Electric is expected to be available by 2024, so this could come in as the first model to build upon the STLA Framework platform, which Stellantis plans to market midway through the year. Car giant Stellantis confirmed today it is working on a fully electric Dodge muscle car and a fully electric Ram 1500 pickup, both models are already under development and expected to be ready for delivery by 2024.
We are still waiting for details about Chevys 2024 Silverado Electric, but word is it will come with over 400 miles of range when it debuts in the spring of 2023.
During the question-and-answer session Stellantis held following Rams March 1, 2022, Long-Term Strategic Plan presentation, one analyst asked whether Ram might accept 1,500 orders for EVs 12-18 months ahead of starting deliveries, similar to what Ford and GM are doing with the Ford Electric Truck. That was slightly less of a hand-wringing question than when Ram teased an electric 1500 last time, when Ram actually left in outlines of the vehicles design into teaser images, showing off a bit more of the truck than the automakers marketing team would likely have preferred.
